The word ‘Mews’, largely applies to converted stabling situated in the most exclusive areas of cities and towns. Their original purpose was to provide accommodation for horses and carriages on the ground floor and staff living quarters and hay lofts to the first floor. They were mostly located behind the town residences of the aristocracy and affluent merchants.
After World War I, the advent of the automobile, coupled with a harsh economic climate, caused Mews to lose their original function. A renaissance during the 1960’s resulted in the refurbishment and restoration of many of these quaint buildings, and the term ‘Mews’ became synonymous with the jet set. Michael Caine, James Hunt, Jacqueline du Pre, Agatha Christie, Christine Keeler, Peter Cook and Stirling Moss to name but a few became the proud owners of these unique homes.
Mews properties are now seen as fashionable. They offer well proportioned living space for today’s lifestyle in excellent locations.
Newlands with its quick access to town and ‘village’ atmosphere is generally regarded as one of the most desirable places to live in the Mother City. The Mews is around the corner from Dean Street Arcade where you’ll find Woolworths, Niño’s Café, Mama Roma’s restaurant, Whatadeli and Fabulous Flowers to name but a few of the delightful shops.
Further along Main Street is Newlands Village with yet more restaurants, wine bars and fashion shops. SACS school is virtually across the road and a five minute walk will take you to both the Newlands Rugby and Cricket grounds.
All four properties have been designed to reflect today’s lifestyle. They offer contemporary, open plan design featuring generously proportioned rooms over three floors. Together with luxury imported finishes, a rim flow pool, garaging and parking for a total of four cars and state of the art security, these homes will prove a true ‘blue chip’ investment for the lucky few.
